I think things become more fascinating to us because we are allowed to learn what we want to learn, what we are passionate about. In schools that's not the case. Schools are made to give us a basic understand of all subjects. As adults we get to decide where and when we want to learn. The farther you get in your University program the more classes you take that are specific to what your degree and what you are interested in. We hate taking those Frosh course that we know...really do not apply to our degree. But we have to take them because someone somewhere decided that everyone needs to have x class. Or x number of classes in a subject area.

What I believe we need to do is find what is passionate to our students early and then create opportunity within ever subject to ignite that passion so that they see the relevance in the subject and content they are studying. Learning comes when we are engaged, engaging students is what teaching is about!
